Theme park industry leaders in California say they aren't pleased with
proposed reopening guidance being considered by Gov. Gavin Newsom’s
administration.

Erin Guerrero, executive director of the California Attractions and
Parks Association, said amusement park leaders wanted changes to a draft
they reviewed on Thursday and asked Newsom to continue conversations
with industry leaders before finalizing the rules.

“While we are aligned on many of the protocols and health and safety
requirements, there are many others that need to be modified if they are
to lead to a responsible and reasonable amusement park reopening plan,”
she said in a statement.

Nathan Click, a spokesman for the governor's office, told the Sacramento
Bee the state planned to release the guidance Friday. A spokeswoman for
California's Health and Human Services agency said Friday that no
announcement was immediately expected.

Disney officials announced this week the layoff of 28,000 workers

economic recovery task force, the Bee reported.

TODAY Wednesday 10/07/2020 Governor Newom declares upgrade - Orange tier
for Orange County - Disneyland, Knotts now permitted to operate at 25%
capacity.

Cartman bought an empty theme park cheap because it was loosing money
just so he could ride all the rides alone and whenever he wanted without
standing in line. But to run the ride he had to hire an operator, and to
pay him he opened the gate exclusively to a select few friends -
everyone clamored to be among the chosen. Then he needed to hire
security so a few more were allowed to pay admission and Cartman was
forced to choose more and so on each day until the park was full and he
was stuck again with huge lines so, loosing interest, he sold it.
Brilliant strategy to rescue a theme park was never on his mind.

I can't imagine turning a profit at 25% capacity, Disneyland would soon
deteriorate. I can imagine that security and groundskeepers now on staff
are secure in their jobs for now. All others such as merchandise hosts,
foodservice and attractions may need to wait until full capacity is
permitted again by the state, as gate determines payroll.

I don't believe anyone but DIS execs know the actual numbers in terms of
what attendance level is needed to break-even, but I suspect it's much
higher than 25%. Factor in all the extra labor needed to perform extra
cleaning, enforce mask policies, check temperatures, etc. and I'll bet
it would be tough to make a profit with 50% capacity. Also, I would
guess that just getting guests into the parks doesn't make much of a
profit, even at 100% capacity. The real money is in food and
merchandise sales. So that presents another issues. With only 25%
capacity, unless they artificially control throughput, most attractions
will be walk-on, so now guests won\'t need FPs and will spend more time
on rides, translating to less time in shops and restaurants.

I've heard it's 50%. The parks seem quite busy to me.

I wonder if the busy feeling is because some attractions and venues are
closed, and the ones that are open are operating at a reduced capacity?
I had always heard that at 50%, the parks were "exciting but
comfortable", then at 75% is where you started seeing standby waits in
the 90+ minute range, and when capacity is over 80%, it's just downright
miserable.

If the parks capacity has climbed to 50% from 25% I would take that as a
good sign. I am not sure how one would trace a covid case back to a
visit to WDW but so far I am not hearing of any ill effects except the
longer waits. I do see some Vlogers going later in the day and having
shorter waits and the 6' apart makes any line look overwhelming.

We go Nov 13-21 so we will see for ourselves I guess. It's the one park
a day that complicates my life.... But we will go on!

The comments on the RADP FB page seem to indicate that, too. They were
reporting that lines snaked out onto walkways because of more space
between guests, and actual wait times were half of what was posted.

That an masks. I would not even think about going if I have to wear a
mask.

I was there (in EPCOT) about a week ago with Iris and Brooke, and while
the lines looked very long, remember that you have to take into account
all the space being left empty. The longest line we waited on was for
Frozen Ever After ... the line was past the restaurant and around
towards China. The wait was listed at 50 minutes (we had just an hour
until our lunch reservation) so we got on line. In truth, the whole wait
- including 5 minutes where they loaded no one and disinfected every
boat - we were on in under 35 minutes.

I am hearing this about the lines from multiple sources. Which is OK
with me. We are coming down in November and I would like the Mickey and
Minnie experience. I will wait for that one. And Maybe Slinky Dog.

I may have to do the Runaway Railway by myself since Iris is still
blocked out from DHS and it appears it will be that way for the
foreseeable future.

Yeah seems reasonable. 25% if a hard target for WDW. And they
don't want it cluttered up with Freebies
