I just got online for a moment at the Disneyland Hotel. Two unbelievably
incredible fantastic things happened there today - a fire at the Paradise
Pier Hotel caused just about every piece of fire response vehicle to
respond, and a Fairybook Fantasy Wedding and reception above Goofy's
Kitchen.

First the fire: No injuries, just a bit of smoke from the construction area,
which caused someone to pull the fire alarm, which forced the evacuation of
the hotel. Responding post haste was a representative of every kind of fire
truck and paramedic, even the battalion chiefs from Garden Grove and other
surrounding municipalities. So much equipment arrived that all southbound
lanes of Disneyland Drive - which is the main Disneyland offramp from the
freeway - were blocked. Traffic was O.K. to the Mickey and Friends Parking
structure. But past the Downtown Disney Parking, all traffic was diverted
with a northbound U-turn, and the overflow Downtown Disney was already being
used for overflow Theme Park parking behind the Paradise Pier hotel - and
that was suddenly closed for use as the evacuation zone. Traffic was snarled
and a mess of confused drivers were circling being given conflicting
directions by cast members/security. The fire crew/police officers were
directing traffic fine, but pedestrians trying to cross Disneyland Drive
east, away from the conflagration - mostly cast members trying to get to
work - were prevented by idiot security. Incredible.

Second, the Fairybook Fantasy Wedding: Wow, her dad must have spent a
fortune with the PhotoPass and the Cinderella Coach and the Garden Gazebo
wedding and the Convention Hall catered reception - a financial tragedy -
but it was unbelieveably beautiful just as well

Fantastic: I started out the day getting Huell Howser's autograph for the
Carolwood Pacific Historical Society http://carolwood.com suitable for
framing. We are well on the way to getting Walt's favorite railroad car,
built at the studios in 1955, and featured prominently on opening day - the
Combine No. #101 formerly of the Disneyland Railroad - installed under a
protective roof. We will be temporarily tearing down the fence to move it

Well, Huell, the fire, and the Fairytale Wedding were posted that night.
By request of Bill of the Carolwood Foundation, no photos will be posted of
the Combine move-in. It went smoothly, no fences were removed or replaced,
although a bough was broken by the roof of the rail car as they unloaded it
under a tree. Planning could have been better for winching the car onto the
trailer, it was pointed backwards for installation. We had to turn it around
by setting temporary tracks in the parking lot, unloading the car, moving
the truck to the other end, and winching it back aboard to then maneuver the
trailer into position for her final two hundred foot rail journey. We're
still not done. A shelter must be built, and a wheelchair ramp. The seats,
with original upholstery intact, were transported in-situ, but all the doors
and windows were removed for the trip, to best protect them. There is still
much work to be done.
