The BIG ANNOUNCEMENT !

The last three remnants of Mine Train through Natures Wonderland, which opened at Disneyland in 1956 following the 1955 opening day of the other Nature's Wonderland attractions: Conestoga Wagon/Stage Coach and Mule Train as the keystone attractions of the original Frontierland, have been located and, with an agreement under a long term renewable loan from WDC archives, will be relocated to Walt's Barn for restoration and display. The locomotive and two rail cars on loan were last seen on the trestle ringing Cascade Peak out over the Rivers of America 'abandoned' as the result of a rock slide collision, with three whistling badgers having taken up residence in the last car.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, built over the area where once the mule train, wagon trail and Mine Train attractions once roamed and intertwined, incorporates many of the elements once featured of Nature's Wonderland, some reproduced in different locations with improved methods of effects like Rainbow Caverns, or the re-alignment of the frontier town of Rainbow Ridge. As well, Big Thunder Bar-B-Que preserves some of the original rock work sculpture. The MTtNW #1 locomotive and first two passenger 'ore' cars will soon join Walt's favorite car from the Santa Fe and Disneyland railroad 'combine' SF&DL #101 and Ollie Johnston's 'depot' playhouse near the LALS stationary steam exhibit, with the multitude of exhibits and ephemera showcased within the museum building of Walt's Barn - Walt's tinkering spot and the birthplace of Imagineering.

Walt Disney’s Carolwood Barn Celebrates 15 Years in Griffith Park

Carolwood Foundation to Make Major Announcement; Carolwood Pacific Historical Society Founder Michael Broggie to Sign Copies of New Edition of Walt Disney’s Railroad Story

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Sunday, July 20 from 11am to 3pm the Carolwood Pacific Historical Society will celebrate the 15th anniversary of Walt's Barn at the Los Angeles Live Steamers in Griffith Park. On July 20, 1999 Diane Disney Miller, personally dedicated the Barn as a tribute to her father, Walt Disney, saying, “Our heart and our heritage is here in this place.”

At 1:00pm the Carolwood Foundation will be making a major announcement as part of this joyous occasion. Fans of classic Disneyland attractions who attend will be the first to hear all about an exciting new addition coming to Walt's Barn.

Joining the festivities will be the Founders of the Carolwood Pacific Historical Society, Michael and Sharon Broggie. Michael will not only be there as Founder of the CPHS, he will also be offering a rare signing opportunity for a new edition of his award-winning book, Walt Disney's Railroad Story. This will mark the initial release of the revised all color 4th edition, the 432 page account of Walt’s lifelong passion for railroading. An autographed limited edition bookplate will be offered exclusively with each book sold at the event, marking both the barn’s anniversary and the new book’s release. The new edition features many updates of the original that was released in 1997. Copies may be reserved by sending an email to: ***@carolwood.com.

Walt Disney’s Carolwood Barn is located at the Los Angeles Live Steamers Railroad Museum at 5202 Zoo Drive in Griffith Park. The barn is open the third Sunday of every month. Admission is free. Walt Disney’s Carolwood Barn is operated on behalf of the Walt Disney Family Foundation by the non-profit Carolwood Foundation, a 501(c)3 charity. The Foundation's mission is to preserve Walt Disney's railroad legacy. This is accomplished through: sharing our volunteers' and supporters' love of railroading; teaching our children to understand the role that railroads served in building America; and encouraging the continued appreciation of railroading. Great news! I'm looking forward to visiting Walt's Barn
again and seeing these train cars!
