Well, just as I thought I was providing a much needed service to a well
deserved group of folks, because nice people do nice things for nice
people, it seems my efforts are only flickr duplicates of existing
websites, some sparse and others elaborate.

http://www.flickr.com/groups/licenseplatepoker/ was preceded by
http://www.licenseplatepoker.com/ both with one plate each.
and The Disney Penny Press group at
http://www.flickr.com/groups/parkpennies/ was preceded by
http://www.parkpennies.com/ an extensive catalog and history of Disney
Theme Park elongated coins.

I thought I was a shining original test roll, as it turns out, I'm just
a rolled out copy off of an impression, a blank token in a cog mill. [my
jokes are die-ing out here, trying to crank it up.] Stamp me a
duplicate. --(o=8> Wiz.

If you did it on your own, you are not a copy. You were original in
concept. It's just that other people had the same idea as you.
Remember there are officially 8 billion people on this planet. A more
reasonable assumption is there are 9 billion. It will be 10 billion
in another 12 years, if we make it. Probably some natural or manmade
events will cause a rapid decrease in population, but there will still
be quite a few left most probably. Unless the oxygen disappears as
some predict by the death of plankton in the sea which creats 90
percent of the earth's oxygen, or did until it started dying off.

Anyway, my point being is that you are dealing with a park which is
made to attract as many people as possible. The park has only a
limited amount of attractions, which all those people have
experienced. Maybe not all tried the pressed pennies but a large
percentage would. Most of those people have internet connections and
a lot have time on their hands to create web pages or photo essays.

Add this all together and there are bound to be duplications of your
work. Even the most original idea has been done before. Now, what
makes an idea original is not necessarily the idea, but how you
implement that idea, how you edit and present the idea is what creates
your unique personae.

I thought i was one of the first to do a photo essay on Club33:

http://www.acidheaded.com/club33/

What i found was that there were a few sites that had preceeded my
posting. But still mine was unique.

I had added humour that was missing from the other photo sites. My
story telling style was a travel adventure, and it kept, or so i'm
told, people's interest throughout the entire photo essay. It was
quite original even though the subject matter had been done before in
a photo essay. I got around 100,000 to 200,000 hits altogether on
that photo essay, and many photo downloads from my site.

A few months after my photo essay went up another one appeared. It
was almost exactly like mine in style and was an obvious copy of my
website. They attempted humour, but failed. They were trying to
duplicate my humour and world viewpoint , but it wasn't them, so they
didn't quite catch the pacing and balance between the photo and the
story telling.

It felt empty because it was a copy of someone elses's original
concept.

Later there were many other Club 33 photo essays and a lot better
photos and details and stuff. I think mine inspired their creation,
but after a while the inspiration is watered down by so many
replications, my influence can be disputed.

It's like a pie fight in movies. Who was the first? Hard to say.
After a while there were so many filmed pie fights they became more
iconic than original. Was the first piefight even original or was it
copied from a comedic skit at a playhouse. Probably. What makes a
good pie fight is if someone cares and really edits it well and tries
to make it funny, instead of just duplicating other pie fights. I'd
say one of the best is in Blake Edward's, The Great Race.

As for Club33 photo essays, i think mine is still one of the best
because i didn't copy others but did what i wanted and thought was
entertaining. Simple, but fun, with a sense of humor, because i cared
and tried to entertain, instead of trying to be popular by
replication.

Your's is not a copy. You did what inspired you from your visits, not
what inspired you from your visits to other peoples web photo
displays. So, your's is unique, and it shows.

Keep up the good work, Disney Wizard.

Your Pal,
Ed
