Disneyland scheduling questions

Okay, I've gotten some information that the Southwest fares special
that expires tonight is pretty good, so I think I'll go ahead and
book some flights for this fall.

From what I can determine, Haunted Mansion Holiday should open by
the third week of September, so early October should be plenty safe
to catch it.

Halloween Time should start at the very end of September or early
October. I don't care about it, but I do care about Disneyland not
being available to anyone except partygoers one evening, so I want
to avoid HT. Except for a rogue Monday evening in 2011, it seems
to occur mostly on Tuesday and Friday evenings, yes?

"Fantasmic" is currently running on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
nights. Is it likely to be the same in October? One of the travel
plans I'm considering is Sunday through Tuesday so that I could
catch a Sunday performance of "Fantasmic."

However...I'm a bit hesitant to go to DL/DCA on a weekend. Especially
with Cars Land opening this summer, might Sundays be pretty crowded?
Also, I can't go on Oct. 14 and Oct. 7 is the day before Columbus
Day, which, while not a major holiday, could still put extra people
in the parks.

So if I'm willing to give up "Fantasmic" (which I've seen plenty
of times), perhaps a Wednesday-Friday trip would be better? (I'd
be leaving before the Friday evening Halloween party.)

I haven't been to DLR for three years, so all advice from more
recent visitors is welcome!

Halloween Time dates have been announced - September 14 (very early this
year) - October 31. So that will include Haunted Mansion Holiday and
Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy in addition to all of the decorations on
Main Street and in Frontierland. It will be interesting to see if
they do any decorating in DCA this year - my guess is no.

No party dates yet, but yes, it is usually on Tuesdays and Fridays, plus
whatever night October 31 falls on.

That's the usual off-season schedule.

I was there on Sunday - I suppose that counts as "recent". :-)

New/updated stuff in the last 3 years:

Disneyland:
Star Tours
Matterhorn
Jolly Holiday Bakery
"it's a small world"
Soundsational Parade
Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough (you may have seen that)
Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln (back to the original)
Voices of Liberty in the Opera House
Mark Twain Riverboat (new narration)
Jungle Cruise (piranhas)
Fantasmic! (new dragon and eels)
Carnation Cafe

DCA:
Cars Land
Buena Vista Street
World of Color
Little Mermaid
Goofy's Sky School
Silly Symphony Swings
Ghirardelli Ice Cream Shop
Mickey's Fun Wheel (lights at night)

It's going to be very interesting to see what happens to crowd patterns
in the parks after Cars Land and Buena Vista Street open and all the
construction walls come down in DCA. Will more people buy single-day
admission tickets to DCA? Will there be more people with parkhoppers
staying in DCA rather than going to DL? Will too many people try to go
to DCA, get fed up with the crowds there and go to DL, making it even
more crowded? Hopefully things will have settled down some by
October...I expect this summer to be kind of a mess, though.

I thought they made a big deal about Tower of Terror at Hallowe'en.
[lengthy list deleted]

Wow, they've been busy little bees! I knew about all the stuff at
DCA and Star Tours at DL, but didn't know about the other stuff
at DL.

Is all that happening at once? That is, will the opening of Cars Land
mark the end of this big round of construction at DCA?

Yeah, all that plus the summer heat is what made me aim for October...

Thanks, Laura!
