Post by Jon NadelbergWe could always reboot this newsgroup.
Has that ever happened?

"The Dude abides."
On the day, and at the very moment in 1995 or so when my newsreader client informed me there was a new newsgroup news:alt.disney.disneyland I subscribed and was among the very first to post. I let news:rec.arts.disney and news:rec.arts.disney.parks slide gradually and would lurk there wading through the trip reports monitoring for Disneyland and Indiana Jones Adventure related articles. Like "Did you ever notice the 'Soarin'' safety instruction film third guy looks alot like Al Lutz?" But mostly all those folks who frequented here either joined web-based moderated Disney related bulletin boards or started their own.
I remember doing all my Disney news through an Anaheim dial-up bulletin board bbs "The Mouse House" until I contracted for DisneySoft and got a handle as ***@DisneySoft and the company bbs tapped rec.arts.disney when it was just that, before the sploosh, er.. split and participated in the split, sticking to r.a.d.parks and lurking/sliding r.a.d.merchandise/animation/misc and letting my r.a.d.moderated voluntEar duties slide. With an occasional anonymous post to news:alt.disney.the-evil-empire where my dad lurks.
So, having been here all along, I can honestly say, "news:alt.disney.disneyland" has never been rebooted. Not that I know what that means, to reboot a newsgroup. I interpreted it to be a jibe at one solution to slow personal computer performance. That "rebooting" might speed it up. Otherwise I speculated that removing the newsgroup and creating it again might put it on the newsreader client 'new' notice, thereby displaying the group name before thousands of users. (are there still millions of folks using clients for this, or is everybody... er, the majority of readers accessing with web-page based sites as I suspect?)
So, in Disney Host fashion, I will not say "I don't know" but rather "To answer your question, I'm not sure where to look or who to ask." but since I'm not on the clock in this response, I hope to shelve it with a table veto and hope it's o.k. not pursuing it. Rather, I have my own question for John:
"What is, and how does one go about rebooting a UUNet newsgroup?"
I would have never called myself DisneyWizard the Fantasmic if it weren't for "The Fabulous Disney Babe"
whom I imagined as a short youthful blonde with a tan round face. I chose a character I could grey, er... grow into.
I thought it was funny that Derek Janson over on news:rec.arts.disney.parks took such exception to my returning in 2008. I really don't understand his motivation to suggest that I go wizz on an electric fence.
No, thought it had TWO Z's--
Y'know, like when you dare someone to do it on a cattle fence? ^_^
in response to my friendly request to "be friendly, my friends call me Wiz."
Post by Jon NadelbergAnd you don't want to know what the rest of us HERE call you. :/
(trust me)
Given "Wiz" (as he's known to his friends)'s contributions, "reading
this thread" would be the equivalent of waiting for a bus hor an hour to
get from Pop Century while having pleasant chats with other guests,
while some stranger a few feet away bellows the Gilligan's Island theme
at the top of his lungs, convinced he's a "postmodern" hoot... :/
I was just trying to entertain, like Caren, the Queen of Adventureland and tales of the Trimobian Pavillion.
He called me a spammer and worse, I honestly don't know what he had against me, unless he was the perpatrator of the spam and upset it was cancelled.
Post by Jon NadelbergFor the benefit of society, I know what I do and why I do it.
Although I find it difficult to engage in questions about the beds at
the Grand Floridian, having never been.
I also choose not to defend myself, for I refuse to have a battle of
wits against the unarmed.
Derek, you attack, in the name of all that are r.a.d.parks, but do you
know why? (meditate)
Well, you may also stop and notice a few, shall we say, *mysteries*--
Such as:
A) Do you find yourself the ONLY one responding to spam posts, and
wondering why the "cause" hasn't caught on with other group members?
It WAS effective in limiting the eGraffiti, well... all but YumYuck's.
B) Does it often seem as if *nobody* is respond to your posts (even the
non-spam related ones?)
I didn't expect a reply. I wasn't asking any questions.
C) Has it been a number of years since graduating high school?
Huh? Nevermind, I don't want an explaination. I take it as calling me childish.
D) Do you at times get the impression that the desperate attempts at
verbally masturbatory Clever-Cleverness are, in fact, DRIVING PEOPLE
AWAY from any urge to reply to your posts?
That's how I express myself. I don't see it as clever.
E) Have you ever wondered about the median demographic for most of the
posters on RADP, and whether this might have any effect on the reception
your posts are getting in the group?
I don't care if people resond. It offends me that anyone should tell me how to feel. I just don't think sparking a long thread is an important lifetime achievment. But I think not offending anyone is.
If any one of these questions has ever struck a thought in the past few
weeks...it could be worth investigating.
Never hurts to get away from the mirror once in a while, and do a little
homework.

definition of the term "Annoyance")

Back to what I thought was funny - I'm still here, he's gone.
I posted news about Disneyland, he posted personal attacks.
I didn't think the news required a reply. He claimed no one replied because everyone hated me.
I continue to contribute. He, who was most vocal about not wanting me here, is gone.
There are folks I miss here, Al Lutz, Ken Pellman, Doobie Mosely, Bartender Sam, John Perry, John Frost...
and http://www.kungaloosh.com/ is now advertisement for the brand of tea.
But, and however, I will continue to contribute, for even though there's not much discussion, I can still brighten someone's day.
